The Big East Football Conference is in the midst of experiencing
its biggest changes since its founding in 1991. Gone are
perennial powers Miami, Virginia Tech, and Boston College as
well as league doormat, Temple. New to the conference are
Louisville, Cincinnati, and South Florida. Some are calling the
changes one big folly; while others believe that the conference
will shake off its losses and move forward stronger and wiser.
Three letters have hurt the Big East Conference over the past

b>Stamford Bridge
Most soccer teams have an emotional link to their home stadium,
but the history of few teams and stadiums are as intertwined as
that of Chelsea FC and Stamford Bridge, their London home. Built
in 1877, Stamford Bridge was an athletics track until 1905 when
two brothers (HA and JT Mears) purchased it with the intention
of attracting an existing team to play there. When this plan
failed, they decided to take the bull by the horns and create
their own team - Chelsea FC.
And ...› Continue reading

Why do I find watching football on TV so relaxing? (That's
soccer, by the way, America.)
It's a nice brain in neutral activity, much like cartoons, but I
think there's a little more to it.
I suspect it's got something to do with the physics of motion -
the curve of the ball as it rises and falls in perfect curves
and parabolas, the pauses as we wait for it to fall back to
earth, all controlled by the physical laws at the foundations of
our existence.
It's very zen, meditative, everything in ...› Continue reading

school, football can bring out the best or worst in people. For

It probably happens to you quite frequently. You and a friend
have a disagreement about an English football game. To verify
who is right, you would probably ask a few people you know,
check the newspaper, or wait for your local news or some other
station broadcasting sports highlights. However, if the game
that is the subject of your debate took place years ago, the
resources listed previously aren't the best method to obtain
football results.

Your passing game starts with the ability of your football wide
receivers to get separation from their defenders. It doesn't
matter if you have the greatest quarterback in the world if his
receivers can't give him a window to throw to. The first step is
to teach your wide receivers how to get off the line. If the
defenders are pressing and bumping at the line, the receiver
must know how to beat the pressure. Begin by teaching fakes. The
most basic is the "head bob". This is where the football ...› Continue reading

They say the ball is round and that anything can happen in
football. Such is the unpredictability of football that it adds
an element of surprise to this game. It is akin to David vs
Goliath. Idealists and romanticists will always root for the
underdog. That is the reason why Rocky films are so popular.
Here we are dealing with reality and not fiction. It is in this
arena where the underdog can flourish and triumph. Think about
it. We have so many improbable cases of the impossible ...› Continue reading

Our country's soccer players wouldn't look nearly so good were they not wearing matching soccer teamwear. Likewise with our rugby team. Clothes are one of the first things people judge you on, and when you are a team looking professional is imperative whether you are posing for photographs or running onto the field. That is why there are a number of commercial outlets that stock a variety of soccer- and rugby teamwear to ensure that your team is kitted out in the best attire. One of the most ...› Continue reading

New Year's day means different things to different people.
Certainly, spending time with family and friends and watching
some great college bowl games. In our house, a new year also
means making resolutions.
It started about 15 years ago when my wife and I were on a ski
trip together ' before kids. It was one of those days in Taos,
New Mexico where the snow was coming down so heavy that you
couldn't see your hand in front of your face. For some people,
the fresh powder might make for great snow ...› Continue reading

that pop out and surprise just about every fantasy football
player out there. Some of these surprises, like finding a
twenty-dollar bill in the dryer, are very pleasing. Other
surprises, like finding out you left a Hershey bar in the pocket
of your favorite shirt in the dryer, just leave you with that
sinking feeling that your season is in trouble. Let's take a
look at who are the twenty-dollar bills and who are the
chocolate bars ...› Continue reading
